Current Opportunities

Senior Brand Designer
(Six Month Contract)

We believe branding can be a force for good. We partner with purpose-led organisations, social enterprises, and visionary brands to create meaningful, strategic, and design-led work that drives positive impact for people and the planet.

As a small and highly collaborative team, we value curiosity, creativity, and clarity. We’re looking for a Senior Brand Designer who shares our belief in thoughtful, purposeful design — and who’s ready to play a leading role in shaping brands that matter.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Brand Designer who can confidently lead brand projects from concept to delivery.

You will report to the Creative Director and work within our design team who will act as your collaborators and sounding boards. You'll also work closely with the Account Director and our wider network of freelance writers, strategists and specialists.

The Opportunity

We are initially seeking a Sydney-based contractor for six months, with the potential of evolving into a permanent part-time position in line with our studio values.

We offer a competitive salary pro-rated to the number of days you work. We don't believe 5 days' worth of work can be done in 4, so we don't want to set that expectation! Crafting quality takes time.

Our pay range for this position is $95—$125k including super.

Ideally, We are looking for a candidate open to freelancing in person with the team at our studio in South Eveleigh, Sydney, with a view to transitioning to permanent part-time if it's working well for us collectively. WFH flexibility is available as required once settled and into the studio rhythm.

Responsibilities
  • Lead brand identity projects with autonomy, from discovery and concept through to final rollout which can include brochures, websites, apps, print & digital campaigns
  • Collaborate with strategists and writers to bring verbal and visual identities to life
  • Translate strategy into meaningful and distinctive design concepts
  • Develop comprehensive brand systems including logos, typography, colour, layout, and visual language
  • Present work with confidence — both internally and to clients
  • Provide creative direction and design leadership within the studio
  • Stay informed on design trends, sustainability in design, and emerging tools
  • Contribute to shaping the creative culture and values of the studio

Most importantly, you will have an active interest in design and communications and be excited about its potential to influence positive change for people and the planet.

Skills & Experience
  • Professional experience of at least 6+ years, ideally within the creative industries (or an experienced Junior with 3+ years experience looking for a challenge)
  • Confident leading projects and working directly with clients
  • Strong communication skills, applying a growth mindset and critical thinking skills to team collaboration
  • Adaptability to lead and support on projects, leading individual projects or as design support on larger projects both independently and as part of a group
  • Excellent attention to detail across projects and ensuring that the timescales and schedules are met effectively from a design perspective
  • Skilled in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, After Effects and Figma
  • Experience with animation (Cinema 4D or Blender) is a bonus.
  • Copywriting is a special splash of magic dust if you have it!

About Collective Objective

Our Collective Objective is to use strategic branding and design as a force for good to enhance purpose-driven people, businesses, and ideas to connect with, educate and inspire audiences.

By building brands and communicating with purpose, heart, and soul, we aim to positively impact People, Business, and the Planet. Ultimately working towards a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative future for all.

We believe in creating an environment where people feel challenged, stimulated, and, most importantly, valued — with great support. We're looking for a Senior Brand Designer who is ambitious, eager to learn, brings great energy to the studio and become a proud member of a small and mighty team.

Our key drivers to achieve this are:

A good work-life balance is important to us

We will always be a part-time studio because we know how stressful agency life can be. That's why we cap our hours at four days a week (but if you love to work, 5 is an option).

We are committed to continually learning & improving

We allocate two hours a week to our own learning, sharing our knowledge, and growing as a team.

We make sure we work with people who do good

We screen our clients using the SDGs to ensure at least 50% of them will directly contribute to at least one through their business model in 2024.

We are committed to caring for Planet A

There is no Planet B. That's why we are a proud member of 1% For the Planet. We pledge our revenue and skills to help charities that care for the planet.

We are a certified B Corp studio

We are excited to be a part of the B Corp community and commit to continual improvement in line with B Corp standards for better business. We're even prouder to call them one of our clients!

Additionally, you can expect the following:

  • Professional development time allocation and budget as individuals and a team
  • Collective Objective Conversations encouraging collaborative feedback in place of traditional top-down performance reviews
  • Regular team lunches facilitating our Lunch and Learn sessions and team outings
  • Nourishment on tap: Beverages, snacks (Some healthy, some less so)

How to apply

Suppose you are excited about this role and our vision, but your experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job description. In that case, we encourage you to apply regardless, as we know that women and underrepresented groups are statistically less likely to apply unless they meet every criteria.

We welcome applications from all social and cultural identities, thinking styles and backgrounds. We actively seek out candidates who may have underrepresented voices and perspectives so we can play our part in creating a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative creative industry in Australia and advocate for a collective culture where everyone belongs.
